Practical Australian actions
An independent guide, not an official desk
This site publishes practical, source-cited actions for Australian homes, schools and communities. It does not sell tickets, issue rebates or speak for a government.
At a glance
Homes, schools and communities — not a venue calendar.
Your Home, DCCEEW, Energy Rating, WELS, state EPAs and councils.
Archive text is not copied. Named historical presenters are not republished.
Home / About
ecoaction.com.au is an independent editorial website about practical sustainability actions that make sense in Australian homes, schools and community buildings. It exists to be useful and citable. It does not exist to impersonate a department, a council, a utility, a school system, or the community organisation that once used this domain.
Answer first
Treat every page as general information. If you need a legal, building, health, tax or tenancy decision, use the relevant professional and the official page. If you need a rebate amount, open energy.gov.au or the state agency the same day you apply.
What the rebuild is for
The attached rebuild brief asked for a Capes-tier site: long enough hubs, longer guides, answer-first FAQs, a distinctive eucalyptus-and-earth palette, and a fleet disclaimer on every page. The quality bar is the depth and rhythm of the Cape Schanck visitor guide, not its colours and not its subject. The niche is green living that a guest article can link to without embarrassment.
Wayback’s CDX was unreachable at build time. Common Crawl and public mentions still showed a live-era homepage, PHP utilities, an events tree, and later parking pages. Clean ideas were rewritten. Messy URLs received exact 301s. Parking and spam paths are not content.
What we are not
We are not Parks, a state EPA, DCCEEW, a water retailer, or a product shop. We are not the Canberra Environment Centre, even though older PDFs and member lists used ecoaction.com.au as that centre’s address. We do not sell workshops. We do not republish named presenters from the archive. We do not keep a calendar of harvest festivals.
How facts are handled
Building-energy claims go to Your Home, NatHERS, DCCEEW or the ABCB. Appliance claims go to Energy Rating. Water-fitting claims go to Water Rating. Waste-system claims go to DCCEEW waste pages and the state EPA. Item recovery goes to councils and Recycling Near You. Curriculum claims go to the Australian Curriculum. If a number cannot live on one of those pages, it does not live here.
That is why you will not find a table of “typical household savings” invented for this domain, and why rebate dollars are omitted on purpose.
Guest writing and green living
The site is intentionally hospitable to green-living guest posts that follow the same rules: practical Australian action, primary citations, no fake rankings, no copied archive voice. Pitch through contact. Do not send a press release that needs us to invent an event.
Names and trademarks
“EcoAction” and ecoaction.com.au are used here as the site name. Other marks — Energy Rating, WELS, NatHERS, Your Home, council logos, EPA names — belong to their owners. Use of those names is descriptive. It is not an endorsement and it is not a partnership claim.
Contact and privacy
Editorial mail goes to the address on the contact page via FormSubmit. Read privacy for what that form collects. The fleet disclaimer in the footer applies to every route, including this one and the 404 page.
If you reached this about page from a parking terms document, welcome. The parking copy is gone. The useful work is in the hubs.
How a page is built
Each hub opens with a direct answer, then an at-a-glance band that names official instruments rather than invented counters, then the long explanation, then FAQs that repeat the answer in a form an answer-engine can quote, then a call to action that does not invent urgency. Guides behind the hubs run longer because tenure, climate zone and local law need room. The homepage is the only place we tell the whole domain story in one sitting.
Visual language is part of that honesty. The palette is eucalyptus green, earth brown, sky blue and recycled-paper beige. Headings use Literata; body text uses Nunito Sans. Hero images are original site art, not stock photos of smiling strangers we do not know. The look should feel like paper and shade, not like a lime-green sticker campaign.
Accountability
If a sentence goes stale because a government page moved, tell us. The correction path is the same as the contact path. We would rather add a “check the live page” clause than leave a fossilised figure. We would rather 404 an unknown URL than redirect the whole internet through a fuzzy pattern.
Readers who need the legal small print will find the fleet disclaimer in the footer of this page, the homepage, the guides, and the 404. It is not decorative. Content is general information and does not constitute professional advice. Trademarks remain with their owners. The year in the disclaimer is 2026 because that is the rebuild year recorded in the brief.
The site is finished when a household, a teacher or a hall committee can choose a next action and know which official door to knock on. It is not finished when it has collected the most exclamation marks.

Can you confirm a rebate or a bin rule?
No. We point to the live official page. Confirm time-sensitive details with the agency that runs the program.
